Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
The Watch the Titles website includes title sequences, summaries, interviews, event titles, student projects, video games, a section called "French Fridays", designers, and studios. This website does not include very popular movies, nor does it contain newer movies. Watch the Titles has many sections to view, but does not have many things in such sections. Tv shows, event titles, student projects, and video have the least amount of examples in their sections. This website allows people to leave comments on most titles included in each section. The student projects are sent in, which leads me to believe that this more if an interactive website, rather than an informational one. The video game section even tells the viewers to give them suggestions on what should be posted. Despite this website not including popular films, it includes interviews from titles designers who have worked on popular films. I have learned that French cinema flourished between the 1950s to the 1980s. I...

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
The Art of the Title website includes titles, features, summaries, interviews, designers, and studios. Each title can include on of these things or only the title. The website also includes a search bar, in which films can be searched up. Another thing about this website is that it includes popular, up to date films. This website taught me that title sequences aren't only for movies and tv shows. Title sequences can be for video games, web series, events, and conferences. Title sequences can be animated, painted, composited, illustrated, torn and pasted, shot, performed, and typeset. Art of the Title provides examples of each way that title sequences can be. Each title includes a clip of the opening of the film. The interviews are typed and include ideas and brainstorms of what they wanted the opening scenes to look like.

Genre Research: Friday the 13th

Image
The final movie I have chosen that is from the Horror genre is Friday the 13th . I watched this movie a couple of hours in preparation to answer these questions. This is another movie I have long dreaded watching. I have always about the killer/villain Jason, but have avoided movies and video involving him. When watching the movie, I just started to skim past it because I was getting scared. I focused on the main details and the elements of the movie that were similar to the film I will make. This movie has a stalker, predator kills vibe. This movie has similar, if not the same elements as the other movies I have picked. Friday the 13th has suspenseful scenes. the element of surprise, jump scares, the setting and physical altercations. One example of the element of surprise that I saw was Jason being underneath the floorboards, and attacking one of the people in the woods. This example can also be used as a jump scare, since it was unexpected and shocked me. The physical altercations i...

Genre Research: Us

Image
Another movie I have picked that is from the Horror genre is Us. I have never heard of this movie, but I have heard of Get Out, which is directed by the same person. I skimmed through the beginning of the movie which basically shows the typical character introduction. A new family comes into a town that they know absolutely nothing about. This movie has mystery, jump scares, suspenseful scenes, shocking turn of events, physical altercations/interactions. In the beginning of the movie, an odd looking dead body is seen being put into an ambulance, which made me think of the undead. A shocking turn of events is who the villain/s actually turn out to be. This is a hidden aspect that my film will be based on. A jump scare in the movie is when the villain appears in the window as the little boy backs away from the door. I didn't finish the movie but from what I've seen, there isn't much fighting, but more of the victims being hunted. One physical interaction I did see is the man...

Genre Research: The Invisible Man

Image
One of the movies I have chosen from the Horror genre is The Invisible Man. I watched this movie with my cousin during Thanksgiving break. She told me I had to watch it and put it on. I personally avoided watching this movie because I was worried that it would be scary. While I was watching the movie, I began to realize it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. This movie has suspenseful scenes, physical altercations, jump scares, mystery, shocking turns of events, and threats. Jump scares like the invisible man snatching the woman up, and things flying across the room are some examples. I actually enjoyed majority of this movie which brings me to the likes and dislikes. I loved the turn of events that took place in the movie. It kept me aware of what was going on and made me more interested in finishing the movie. I did not the repetition of the main character constantly failing to win against the invisible. Additionally, there are some suspenseful scenes and jump scares I enjo...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
I have come to a conclusion about which genre my opening sequence will be. I have chosen the horror genre. I want to keep the film to one theme and one genre.  I have always wanted to be a fake villian and scare others. I feel that horror is more creative than any other genre. The horror genre has aspects and characteristics of other genres as well. It includes action, adventure, and drama as well. Suspense and jump scares are dramatic which are included in horror films. This goes to show that you can do so much more with the horror genre, and there is much more room for creativity.  The other two genres that I was stuck between were action and drama. I am an athletic person, but I am not very flexible. I run track and I occasionally do exercises on my own time. However, I do not think I could make a good action movie. If I were to make one, I would want it to be the best it can be. I would want to include stunts, flips, fighting. I am too inexperienced to create an inte...

Genre Research: Drama & Action

I chose to research the Drama and Action genres. I will share my research from both genres in separately. First I will start with the Drama genre. Common CAMS: Common camera shots are close up shots, long shots, over-the-shoulder shots, medium shots, and extreme close up shots. Common camera angles are high and low angles. Common camera movements are pan, handheld, zoom, reverse zoom, and dolly. A common composition is depth of field. Common CLAMPS: Common costumes in the Drama genre will be explained through these pictures: Common lightings are low-key lighting and three-point lighting. Common acting is fainting, crying gasping, screaming and physical altercations. Common makeup is cream-based and cake makeup. Common props are weapons. Common settings are small towns, space, the middle of the ocean, and a big city like New York.  Common editing are eyeline match, jump cuts, reverse shots, crosscutting, cutaway, dissolve, fade-in and out, superimposition, slow motion and shor...

Genre Research: Horror

This PowerPoint is a project I was instructed to do that is based on the horror genre. I worked on this PowerPoint in the beginning of the year with another student. We were asked to pick a genre from a list of other genres, and research it. Our research consisted of common lighting, camera angles, movements, Mise-En-Scene, elements of horror, example films, common sounds and what we like and dislike about the genre. I have noticed that this PowerPoint has been altered because the slide where I explained my dislikes about the genre is missing. Since this assignment didn't involve meeting in person, it was quite simple to complete. My partner and I split the amount of slides somewhat evenly, which means we each had a responsibility to finish our part of the project. I did the slides that involved videos, the Mise-En-Scene, the common angles and my dislikes about the genre. My partner did the common lighting, elements, film examples, and the likes about the genre. I knew how to add ...

My Pitch

Image
To decide what to base my film on, I have developed two pitches. My proposal for my first film's genre will be horror. I have an old Halloween costume that includes a mask worn by a ghoul to hide his identity. I will not use the same concept for my film, but I will use the mask to give off an eerie feeling. If something goes wrong, I will wear an old killer clown Halloween costume. I will only show the face and not the full costume. I will have clothes over the original costume outfit. My sister has her license so she can take me to a park at night time to give the film a setting. I will be the attacker or pursuer, and I will be after my sister who will be in the film. I am very interested in making this film because I enjoy watching horror games, and YouTubers playing them. On the other hand, horror really scares me, but despite this, the genre has always interested me. My second film will be drama. This film would also feature my sister. I want to make it a sister feud and make ...

Starting the Final Task

Image
My name is Kylah Avril and I'm in the 10th grade. For this final task, I will be working alone. I have a few reasons as to why I chose to work by myself. One of the reasons is because I have not made any friends in my class. I do online learning, so I have not gotten the chance to socialize with my classmates. Either way, I am a shy and somewhat closed off person so I don't usually talk to anyone first. I am getting better at getting out of my shell though. To do this task, I have one friend that I could work with but I haven't discussed that with them due to me being a perfectionist. I have a particular way that I like to do things which is the main reason I am working alone. I feel that I am very selfish with my work. I also like my own accomplishments rather than group accomplishments. I feel more ecstatic and gain more confidence when I am complimented and succeed using my own mind. When it comes to work and brainstorming ideas, I like to be in control. I am not as pas...
