Creative Critical Reflection

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? The conventions for music videos consist of the music video’s style, the editing techniques, the sound effects, the mise-en-scene and the representations. The style of my music video is “concept”. The video revolves around the feeling of accomplishment and friendship. I did not use any transitioning in my music video due to my visual preference. However, I did include a slow motion clip 35 seconds into the music video. The sound effects included in my music video is just the music. This creates a non diegetic sound, since the actors in the film ( my sister, my cousin and I) couldn’t hear. For the mise-en-scene, I complete all aspects of it. I included props that people use everyday, I made sure to keep it simple. I used a ring light to make certain clips brighter and then there was the natural light of outside and the ceiling lights in the kitchen and living room.    Our co...

My Music Video

Image
Filming this music video was somewhat complicated. Procrastination and my being shy played a big part in the delay of filming. From the beginning of the process of making this music video, I already had a plan. The song "Halfway There" came to me because it was stuck in my head. The quality, the outfits how I planned them, the interaction, the acting, and the editing of the video are the things I am most proud of. The aspect I am ...

Filming Procrastination to Filming Completion

Image
I found myself procrastinating the filming process. I couldn’t really concentrate and didn’t feel comfortable doing school work in the environment I was in. It felt like I didn’t really have free time unless I was spending time with the family. Spending my trip with my family became my free time. Since I wasn’t in my normal environment, and I wasn’t using my normal computer, I put schoolwork on hold. During the trip, I planned the days that I was going to film. I told myself “whenever it is sunny outside, I will ask my cousin and sister to help me with my music video”. On those sunny days, I found myself riding bikes, playing board games, and watching movies instead. It felt as if it just wasn’t meant to be. So on my last couple of days in North Carolina, I became serious about filming for my music video. I told everyone tomorrow we are doing it and that is that. When the time came, I was lost on what to film and where. I decided to go to the back of the house and get some footage...
